While not apparent initially, this is actually a tribute game to a streamer who recently decided to take a break from streaming and the internet. He had done it for a year over at twitch.tv/lukeyPookieG playing all mainline Final Fantasy games, and was a great companion to watch interact with.

After a year of streaming almost everyday he has decided to take a break with his future plans unknown.. I completely ripped all assets from Final Fantasy games, his stream, and Google (I wasn't going to draw a bagel). Pookie recently did a 13 hour speed run of the FF Pixel Remasters. I wanted to make a shorter game for him to speed run.

The art style for each level was going to be from a different mainline final fantasy game which is why I started with the black mage from FF1. After struggling with the hit detection and shooting mechanics I decided to scale down the scope at first for just the first 6 worlds, but will be working on the rest of the game throughout the summer. For this jam i also did not complete many of the boss fights so many of them just stand still or barely move with no attacks.

All the coding was done by scratch by me with searching for help in the p5js examples to get it to work. My biggest success for this project was definitely making a world building engine that allows me to adjust each room quickly. I'll be taking this idea forward with me to future jams.

I admit it might not be a true metroidvania, but it got me off my butt and making a longer game than just a short time waster. I decided to submit early, as i belive this has taught me all i can at this point, and any further development should take place in Unity, GameMaker, or some other dedicated engine. Thanks for playing and hope you enjoy my first platformer.

Future plans:
Variable Jumping
A level for every mainline Final Fantasy, with expanding enemies and art style.
Better hit registration, and enemy implementation 2-3 unique from different games.
Fix Shots only lasting until pressed again.
More exact timer.
Transferring to a "real" game engine.
More Unique boss fights
animated character running

I noticed he was not posting. So making a game in a scratch made engine for him is really impressing. But he will still play the next piza jam games. Right?

Don’t know could ask him in his discord

whatever. Great Game [thumbs up sign]
